CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has announced the iPhone 18 Pro along with the iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring enhancements in camera technology, battery capacity, and processing capabilities. Both devices are equipped with the latest A20 Pro chip and a redesigned vapor chamber to maintain consistent performance. Additionally, Apple introduced a smaller Dynamic Island and new camera controls tailored for professional users. Preorders will open on September 12, with sales commencing on September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The most notable camera upgrade is a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera featuring a variable aperture. Six internal blades enable the lens to shift between four different aperture settings. Users can fine-tune aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. A histogram can also be displayed to show exposure levels while framing a scene. The revamped imaging system introduces new texture and grain controls for Photographic Styles, while video recording users can add Cinematic effects post-capture.

Apple is also launching a Reference Image feature designed for those who need to verify whether a photograph has been edited. This opt-in capability records signed sensor data when capturing images in Reference mode. Private Cloud Compute processes this data to generate a reference image that can be compared within the Photos app. Support for the SynthID standard will be added via a software update later this year, with image metadata serving as another method to identify AI-generated or manipulated content.

Photographers gain increased control through variable aperture

The A20 Pro chip is manufactured using a 2-nanometer process and integrates a six-core CPU alongside a seven-core GPU. Apple states that the GPU performance can be up to 40% faster than that of the A19 Pro. The processor also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 total cores dedicated to AI tasks. Its thermal design positions the processor nearer to a larger vapor chamber. Apple claims this setup can deliver up to 40% higher sustained performance compared to the previous generation.

Battery capacity has been increased, especially on models relying solely on eSIM. Apple estimates the iPhone 18 Pro can support up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours under the same test. The Pro model can reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. eSIM-only variants will be available in markets including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the region.

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI features to the latest Pro lineup

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the next iteration of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured to English. In October, Apple plans to extend support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The assistant can utilize information from messages, emails, and photos when users ask for assistance. It can also respond to on-screen content and work seamlessly with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence combines processing on the device with Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud-based functions.

Both models will be available in burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail sales beginning on September 18 in the initial markets. An additional 20 countries and regions will receive the iPhone 18 Pro lineup starting September 25.
