CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves reached an all-time high of $57.2145 billion at the end of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this provisional figure on September 7. As of July’s close, reserves had been $56.2939 billion. The monthly rise was approximately $920.6 million, or 1.6%. This total marks the first occasion when Egypt’s official reserve holdings have exceeded $57 billion.

Egypt foreign reserves rise to record $57.2 billion
Egypt’s foreign reserve stock rose for an eighth straight month in August 2026.

The August figure continues a consistent upward trend observed throughout 2026. Starting the year with reserves of $52.5938 billion in January, Egypt’s holdings grew to $52.7455 billion in February and $52.8306 billion in March. April saw an increase to $53.0092 billion, followed by $53.1342 billion in May. By August, the reserves had grown roughly $4.62 billion since January and about $5.76 billion since the end of December 2025.

The pace of growth sped up mid-year. Reserves increased from $53.1342 billion in May to $55.0723 billion in June. July saw a further rise to $56.2939 billion, culminating in the August peak. These three months added over $4 billion to Egypt’s reserves. When compared to August 2025, the latest reserve figure is approximately $7.96 billion higher, representing an approximate annual growth rate of 16.2%.

Remittances Contribute Significantly to Foreign Currency Inflows

Remittances sent by Egyptians working abroad also achieved a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt stated that these inflows totaled about $47.3 billion, up from roughly $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year, marking a 29.6% increase. In June alone, remittances reached approximately $4.2 billion, which was 15.6% higher than the about $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025.

Egypt’s latest balance of payments figures cover the first nine months of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The data show a deficit of $1.8 billion during July to March, while the capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion. The current account, however, recorded a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures serve as the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external financial position prior to the August reserve update.

Continuous Monthly Reserve Growth Persists in 2026

Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve levels have consistently reached new nominal highs. The reserves surpassed $55 billion in June, moved above $56 billion in July, and in August, they crossed the $57 billion threshold for the first time. Egypt has now recorded three consecutive months at month-end with reserves exceeding $55 billion. The August total is also more than 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion recorded at December’s end of 2025.

These latest figures position Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest level ever reported and demonstrate a steady, uninterrupted monthly rise since January 2026. From the start of the year through August, each month’s reserve total was higher than the previous month. Although the August figure remains provisional under the central bank’s reporting standards, the data clearly indicates a persistent upward trend in Egypt’s reserve stock throughout the first eight months of 2026.
