UAE Houbara Breeding Program Enhances Skills Through New IFHC Training Pathway

ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – The International Fund for Houbara Conservation has introduced a fresh support scheme for Emirati houbara breeders during ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi at ADNEC Center Abu Dhabi at ADIHEX 2026. This Houbara Breeders Support Initiative is designed to assist ongoing houbara production efforts as well as those planning to launch new breeding operations. It provides specialized training, technical support, and access to expert knowledge in breeding. Additionally, the program establishes guidelines related to animal welfare, biosecurity, and responsible facility management.

UAE houbara breeders gain new IFHC training pathway
Emirati houbara breeders gain structured training and technical guidance through IFHC.

A structured registration and assessment system has been implemented for breeders aiming to join. Candidates are required to undergo an evaluation process before receiving final approval. Registration alone does not ensure participation, as applicants must fulfill the initiative’s criteria prior to obtaining support. This process enables specialists to evaluate each applicant’s preparedness and identify areas where further training or technical assistance might be necessary.

Ekthar Wildlife Development will manage the program, overseeing its scientific and technical aspects. The organization acts as a strategic partner supporting IFHC projects, centers, and initiatives both within the UAE and internationally. Its responsibilities include facilitating the implementation of the program and coordinating services for participating breeders. The launch event occurred during the 23rd Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi.

    Comprehensive training reinforces breeding standards

Selected breeders and their teams will benefit from expert instruction provided by Abu Dhabi Nature Academy. The curriculum includes courses and workshops focused on ethical houbara breeding, animal welfare, biosecurity measures, and management of breeding facilities. The training also covers operational procedures used in managed breeding programs. Those who complete the required coursework can earn certifications, and ongoing technical support will be available throughout their participation in the initiative.

Participants who meet eligibility criteria may also gain access to breeding birds through a rights-based arrangement after passing necessary assessments and training. This benefit complements the program’s educational and technical support components. IFHC designed this initiative to give breeders access to knowledge developed through its extensive conservation efforts. The comprehensive framework combines breeder evaluation, formal education, and continuous assistance in a single participation platform.

ADIHEX serves as the platform for launching the program

With over forty years of experience, the International Fund for Houbara Conservation has engaged in breeding, research, release, and conservation activities related to the houbara bustard. These efforts have included projects within the UAE and cooperative initiatives across regions within the species’ native habitat. The new breeder-focused program channels this technical expertise into a structured scheme for private stakeholders, emphasizing clear welfare, biosecurity, and training standards for participation.

Breeders can register through the Houbara Breeders Support Initiative platform or via the IFHC and Ekthar booths at ADIHEX 2026. The event runs from August 28 to September 6 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. Applicants must progress from initial registration to assessment before gaining final acceptance into the program. Those who qualify will be able to access training, technical support, and breeding birds under the program’s established terms of participation.
