Renault’s €10 Billion Investment to Boost Electric Vehicle Production in France

FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group intends to allocate over €10 billion in France within the next five years. Chief Executive François Provost announced this pledge on October 3. The funds will be directed toward electric vehicles and more affordable models. During 2025, Renault manufactured approximately 500,000 vehicles in France. The company anticipates a minimum 25% increase in French production in 2026. Provost emphasized that the commitment hinges on maintaining stable social and political conditions in the country.

Since 2021, Renault Group has invested €13 billion in France, supporting factories, electric vehicle manufacturing, and associated industrial activities. By July 2026, Renault reported producing one million electric vehicles in France since 2010, with about 600,000 of those built at its ElectriCity hub in northern France. The company employs nearly 39,000 staff within France, and its domestic operations are responsible for approximately 35,000 jobs across its supplier network.

Renault’s extensive manufacturing network in France includes assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. Additionally, facilities in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins provide mechanical and industrial support. The Douai plant assembles the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge produces the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Several French sites also manufacture electric commercial vehicles. This network plays a crucial role in Renault’s electric vehicle production within its home market.

Electric vehicle registrations surge in France

Battery electric vehicles represented 42% of new passenger car registrations in France during September, setting a monthly record for fully electric cars in the country. In that month, France registered 156,629 new passenger cars, reflecting a roughly 12% increase compared to the previous year. During the first nine months of 2026, battery electric models accounted for about 31% of registrations, up from nearly 18% in the same period a year earlier.

The outlook for Renault’s production aligns with the growing market share of electric vehicles in France. The company projects at least a 25% rise in output from its French plants this year. Furthermore, in July, Renault announced an additional €13 billion investment in France under its futuREady plan, contingent upon suitable conditions. Provost’s comments in October reaffirm this five-year commitment exceeding €10 billion. These developments follow Renault’s €13 billion domestic investment since 2021.

French facilities serve as key hubs for Renault’s electric car output

By July 2026, Renault’s ElectriCity facilities at Douai and Maubeuge had produced approximately 600,000 electric vehicles. The production of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassed 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric and electric commercial models. Between 2022 and 2025, ElectriCity added 700 permanent jobs, with an additional 550 temporary workers employed at Douai by July to meet increased production demands.

This new investment further extends Renault Group’s existing €13 billion expenditure on its French industrial network since 2021, focused on electric vehicle manufacturing and related activities. Renault anticipates significantly higher domestic vehicle output in 2026 compared to 2025. Provost highlighted that the upcoming five-year period will prioritize electric vehicles and more affordable cars. The announcement coincides with a record-breaking month for electric vehicle market share in France.
