EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – The UAE and Egypt have activated a five-year wheat supply agreement valued at up to US$500 million. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading will provide imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities as part of this arrangement. The purchases will be financed through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This agreement formalizes a framework established in 2023 and defines the terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.

The signing took place on Aug. 26, 2026, at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also serves as GASC chairman, was present at the signing ceremony. Co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, was also in attendance. Officials have not disclosed the volume of wheat covered by this agreement, nor have they revealed details about shipment schedules, origins, annual purchase targets, or the pricing method that will be used for individual transactions.
This arrangement is built upon a financing program announced by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that framework, ADEX provided US$100 million in revolving financing for wheat and other essential commodities. The structure was designed for annual renewal over five years, offering potential financing of up to US$500 million. The original framework involved Egypt’s ministries of finance and international cooperation working alongside GASC. The current agreement clarifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat through this existing financing mechanism.
Five-year framework advances into operational wheat supply phase
ADEX serves as the export-financing branch of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting purchases linked to UAE exporters. The 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other key commodities supplied via Al Dahra. The revolving structure allowed the financing to be renewed annually throughout the five-year term. However, this new supply agreement does not establish an additional US$500 million facility. Instead, it creates a commercial framework enabling GASC to purchase imported wheat from Al Dahra using the financing already arranged through ADEX.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has operated agricultural ventures within Egypt, including farms in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in Egypt and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government over the previous three years. At that time, Al Dahra stated that roughly 85% of its Egyptian farm production entered the local market. Today, the company manages an agricultural platform serving more than 40 markets globally.
Imported wheat procurement remains linked to ADEX financing structure
The agreement signed at El Alamein pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC, although Al Dahra also produces crops domestically within Egypt. In 2023, the company identified itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector producer of wheat and corn. Consequently, the new pact involves a separate import channel supported by UAE export financing. GASC continues to be the Egyptian government entity responsible for procurement under this arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has disclosed the total tonnage of wheat deliveries covered by the five-year agreement.
The program’s total value remains capped at up to US$500 million over five years, according to the structure set in 2023. The parties have not released an annual shipment schedule, nor have they revealed the countries from which the wheat will be imported. Additionally, they have not disclosed the pricing formula for individual purchases. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the confirmed agreement connects Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC with the ongoing ADEX financing program, formalizing the operational phase of this five-year arrangement.
